Visiting Professors and Associate Professors

Application Guidelines for Fiscal Year 2024 (April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025)

Visiting professors and associate professors at the Slavic-Eurasian Research Center are staff who conduct research on the Slavic Eurasian region in collaboration with full-time researchers at the Center.
In fiscal year 2024, we will continue to recruit visiting professors and associate professors to the Center as outlined below.

 

1.Eligibility

(1) Applicant must study the Slavic Eurasian region in some branch of the humanities or social sciences.

(2) Applicant must be under 63 years of age as of April 1, 2024, and must be a professor or associate professor at a university, or a person of equivalent stature who is not affiliated with a university.

3.Working terms and conditions

(1) As a rule, the term of service is 1 year (reappointment is possible).

(2) The visitor is required to conduct research at the Center for about 12 to 15 days (excluding holidays) in fiscal year 2024.

(3) We will pay a salary (hourly wage) during the period of stay. The hourly wage varies from 6,600 yen to 10,400 yen depending on the applicant’s background. In principle, visitors are expected to work 6 hours a day.
Note: Because the budget for fiscal year 2024 has not been finalized, the number of positions and the working terms and conditions are subject to change.

4.Other terms and conditions

Visiting professors and associate professors are required to make at least one presentation at a seminar, workshop, or conference at the Center, and are required to contribute to the Center’s educational and research activities. In addition, visitors are required to submit papers based on their research results during their term of service to the journal Slavic Studies (in Japanese) or Acta Slavica Iaponica  (as with all submissions, the decision to publish a paper shall be made by peer review).

5.Selection process

Selection of applicants will take into account the nature of their proposed research project at the Center for the one-year period comprising fiscal year 2024. Projects that focus on the use of research materials maintained by the Center and in cooperation with full-time researchers here are particularly welcome.

6.Application deadline

Applications must be received no later than Thursday, November 30, 2023
